Thankfulness

This weekend I was able to spend some unexpected time with Mom, which was just lovely! On my drive north, along the blue ocean, I was thinking about how much I have to be thankful for and how there are so many things that I take for granted.

Here are five things I'm thankful for today:

1. A reliable car. I don't have to worry if it will get me to where I need to go or how long I can drive it before a major repair is needed. I am lucky that I on;y have to fill up my gas tank once every three weeks and that I can pick up and drive where I want at a moment's notice.

2. Running water. Not having to wash clothes in a stream, pounding them with a rock; being able to take a shower every day, not having to boil water before I get to drink it. Being able to quench my thirst with the push of a button on my fridge is something I take for granted all the time.

3. My education. Being able to finish high school was never a question (yes, I struggled though math and didn't get an A, but I made it!) I was fortunate enough to be provided with the money to complete my bachelor's degree. I learned so much and even though I still have countless more to learn, I am so glad to have the knowledge I do.

4. My eyesight. I take this for granted everyday! The ability to see a beautiful sunset, the faces of my loved ones, the ability to distinguish between colors and items that are in my way when I am walking are all important every day things.

5. Shoes. I don't have to walk for miles and miles (to get water, maybe) in my bare feet or over bubbling tar in the street. I can throw on a pair of shoes and not worry about stepping on shards of glass or thorns. My feet stay protected and sometimes even look really cute.

What are you thankful for today? Are there things that you take for granted?
