Growing up, we would have fondue every few months for dinner...cheese most often but sometimes meat fondue. There is a restaurant in Thousand Oaks called The Melting Pot . Chris and I have gone twice for special occasions and have really enjoyed it.
With all of the hard work Mom and Dad have been doing for/with us, we wanted to treat them to dinner. Unfortunately, Chris had to work, but we were able to enjoy ourselves without him (chocolate helped!)
We do look like we have been working all day!
First course: Cheese fondue with bread, veggies, and green apples to dip.
We just stuck to cheddar cheese because Chris and I had a really bad tasting one once and we figured cheddar was pretty hard to screw up.
We also got salads for the second course, but I didn't get any pictures, they weren't anything fancy.
Third course: MEAT
We were pretty hungry by the time the meat course came because service was extremely slow for some reason, so we don't have any pictures of the nicely plated dish.
The meat included: filet mignon, lobster, chicken, shrimp, steak, pork tenderloin, and ravioli
Dad and I happily shared the lobster tail
Cooking!
The meat is cooked in a bouillon liquid and we chose one that had citrus and garlic in it.
Fourth course: DESSERT!!!
The dessert is pretty much the best part of the entire meal. They have more than ten different chocolate combinations to choose from.
We went with the S'mores fondue (which included milk chocolate and marshmallow cream being flambeed while being topped with graham cracker crumbs). To dip in the fondue we had: bananas, strawberries, pound cake, brownies, big marshmallows, cheesecake, and rice krispies treats.
I think we all agreed that if we were going to go again, we would just order the cheese and dessert fondue's. The meat was good, but it is so much food and it is hard to cook it exactly as you want it in the boiling liquid. Besides, how can you go wrong with cheese and chocolate?
It was great to get away from house projects for a few hours and enjoy some time together.
Have you had any special meals lately?
