Chris loves to fish and he really wanted to go fishing in the crick (I guess that's how they say creek in NY) behind G&G's house. His Uncle Michael only lives about 1/2 mile from G&G so he took us in his metal boat.
We started at about 8:30 am and began our trek in this beautiful part of the crick.
We didn't bring any old tennis shoes to wade in, so we went to Walmart to buy some galoshes.
There was no motor on the boat, so Chris rowed us down stream.
It was very peaceful, all I needed was my parasol!
We did have to pass over some small rapids to get downstream and there were times that we had to get out and drag the boat over the rocks to make it to deeper water.
Chris and Michael waded into the rapids to catch our bait.
The boys caught crayfish and dobsons (aka hellgamites)
Can you say UGLY???
They look like evil centipedes with a sucker on the bottom (so they can attach to rocks to get food) and big pincher's on their head! They can swing their body around very quickly and pinch you!
Michael said that when they fish, they all pay $1 to the person who caught the first fish, $1 to whomever caught the biggest fish, and $1 to whomever caught the most fish.
I earned $2 from each of the boys with my first cast of the day! I caught the first fish and the biggest!
Measuring my 17 35 inch fish! (gotta at least double the size when telling a fish tale right?)
It was not so fun getting the hooks out of the fish's mouth because most of the time, the Dobson was still alive, trying to pinch you while you tried to unhook the fish!
Thank goodness for husbands!
Oh look! I caught the second fish of the day too! Come on boys, give me some competition!
Oops...maybe I spoke too soon! Michael with his first fish.
And his second...
Chris catching up!
A big one, but not as big as my first fish!
Oh Michael...it's so cute!
We both caught a fish at the same time!
Well...My first fish remained the biggest of the day, but Michael ended up catching about twenty fish so he won the most.
It was a beautiful day out on the crick and it was nice to float along {when we weren't dragging the boat over the rocks}. I'm glad we were able to spend more time with Michael and doing something that Chris really wanted to do.
