It's the little things!

Ok, so as I was typing this title, my plan for this post immediately changed!

I'm sure that pretty much everyone who has a blog has written about their goals for 2011; what they want to change this year and what they want to focus on. I was going to do a post like that, but it was going to be a little later in the month and instead of resolutions I was going to make goals since resolutions have a way of fading away by the second week of January.

This post was going to be about how discovering new things (no matter how trivial [or easy] they may seem to others) makes me happy. {see previous post}

But instead you get this post.

I am making 2011 about the little things. There are plenty of big things that are happening (like buying a house!) that sometimes I forget about the little things. OR I spend all my energy stressing about the little things that I feel so overwhelmed that I just want to crawl in bed and throw the covers over my head and cuddle with the cats.

So this year: I am not going to focus on all of the little things that could go wrong, or the trivial things that really aren't going to matter in the future. In addition I'm not going to let myself stress about the future "what ifs" that I have no control over now (what if I can't get pregnant when we are ready to have children, what if someone I love gets sick/hurt and I can't make it better, what if I make a mistake and can't correct it, etc. etc. etc.).

I am going to celebrate the little things that I find joy in: cuddling up in bed on freshly washed sheets, the warmth of the sun on my shoulders, a good conversation, a home-cooked meal, unexpected days off with Chris, finding the perfect paint color and all of the other little occurrences that happen throughout the day.

I know that it will probably take a little work, but I think that this is a goal that I can keep working on throughout the year. I'm sure that I will have days where the little things seem to add up to big things and I will get stressed. I hope on those days I am able to take a deep breath and find something to take joy in to help me over the stress.

What goals do you have for 2011?
