As you might have read once or twice, or fourteen times, our schedules are not normal. We don't usually have the normal weekends off and it seems that lately we haven't had any quality time together, let alone more than one day off together.
You know, quality time: time to relax; run the errands we want to run, not only the ones we have to run; to fall asleep and wake up next to each other; to eat dinner together and talk about whatever comes into our minds.
We were lucky to have three days off together earlier this week.
Sunday: We went out to lunch before going to a funeral for the grandfather of a friend. Chris had a late hockey game, not starting until about 10:30 pm. Meaning, we didn't get home until about 12:30am and I fell asleep on the couch while Chris watched hockey. We finally made it to our bed around 3am.
Monday: We unintentionally slept in very late. I was exhausted, but we only had chores planned for the day, so fortunately we weren't late for anything. Then Chris' friend called and invited us to go fishing in the lake in Westlake. I was having one of those feeling overwhelmed, too much to do with little time to do it {tears and everything} days and didn't want to go fishing. But I wanted to be with Chris, so I went too.
It was a beautiful day on the water and I was glad that I joined in. It made me remember that it is ok to take a break and just enjoy a beautiful day.
It seemed that there was only one fish in the entire lake, but fortunately Chris was able to catch {and release} it.
After we left the lake, we went out to Simi Valley so Chris could go bowling. He is in a league with his Mom and it's nice to see her at least once a week at the bowling alley.
Tuesday: Before we caught up on our chores, we went for a walk. It was absolutely gorgeous out, but it was too long of a walk for me, as my back and feet were sore for the rest of the day. Hopefully we will get in the habit of walking more often!
Chris mowed our front yard for the first time and it looks so nice! I love driving up to our house and seeing how it is becoming more and more ours with the touches we are adding.
One of my goals this year is to be more organized, so I bought us a new shredder and it does a great job! I cleaned out our files that contained old, old papers we don't need anymore and enjoyed shredding them.
Chris has been wanting to take me to Mastro's for awhile now and he decided that Tuesday was the perfect night. It was a wonderful {expensive} dinner and it was nice to get dressed up a bit and have a romantic dinner out.
We finished the night at one of our favorite places, Zin. As soon as we arrived, the best banana's foster I have ever had arrived, along with creme brulee. It was wonderful to end the night sipping coffee, enjoying our dessert, and just being together.
We don't often have three days off together and I'm glad Chris reminded me that chores could wait and to enjoy the beautiful weather we are blessed with in California.
I hope that you are getting time to enjoy with your loved ones!
