Seattle

Earlier this week, we took Bailey on her first big trip. We flew up to Seattle {Bailey's first flight} to introduce her to my Grandma and my Aunt, Uncle, and some cousins.

I was interested to see how the flight would go, Chris is not a good flier and I wondered if having Bailey with us would make it better or worse for him. I'm proud to say that we all survived and the flights went well.

**I found this article to be really helpful to get us ready for flying with our 1 year old**

We decided to spend Sunday night at a hotel near LAX (we had to be at the airport by 9am Monday) where we could park our car for the duration of our trip and take their shuttle to and from the airport. It was a great plan and we would definitely do it again!

We did our best trying to wear Bailey out before our flight took off. We spent a lot of time going up and down the escalator and walking around the gate area of the airport. Chris boarded the plane while Bailey and I continued to walk around until the majority of passengers boarded.

Our plan worked!
Bailey slept for about an hour and a half of the two and a half hour flight {and Chris slept for about 30 minutes}. She was amazing on the flight. Very happy and barely cried at all!

After Dad picked us up at the airport, we met my cousin Emmy for lunch. It was a short visit but wonderful to get together!

After lunch, we took a ferry (Bailey's first boat ride) to get to Grandma's house.

Bailey meeting her Great Grandma!

We went over to my Uncle's house on Vashon Island for dinner on Tuesday night and it was wonderful! Bailey got to meet more family and the weather was absolutely perfect!

Dinner was delicious (mozzarella and tomatoes, chicken, salad, corn, and homemade peach cobbler!) and we enjoyed it out on the patio. Bailey loved the swing set and slide, playing with my cousins and running around the yard.

The sunset while we were waiting for the ferry was beautiful!

One of Bailey's favorite things to do was terrorize play with Grandma's dog, Jason. He was very patient with her and let her be constantly near him.

Grandma has a green thumb and Bailey loved helping her in the garden. (only a few flowers were picked by tiny fingers). We're working on teaching Bailey to smell the flowers, not pick them!

We went swimming in the pool near Grandma's house and I couldn't resist having Bailey wear her swim cap and matching bathing suit (reminds me of a 1940s swimmer!). The pool has windows that look right out to the ocean!

We spent a little time in Port Townsend, walking around the main street and looking at the boats. Bailey loves holding hands and she happily strolled with Daddy and Grandpa.

We saw this boat dry-docked in Port Townsend, it had obviously been resurrected from the bottom of the ocean!

Bailey was a great traveller, but I think all the fresh air wore her out!

Grandma came with Dad to drop us off at the airport and on the ferry we had a great view of the Seattle skyline.

On our way to the airport, Mt. Rainier loomed ahead of us.

It only took Bailey about 10 minutes into our flight home to fall asleep. She woke up with about an hour to go and she had fun making friends with those sitting around us.

I am so thankful for the time that we got to spend with our family, our sweet girl who did great with a varied schedule, and memories that were made.

Your daughter is adorable!! And that's awesome that she did so well traveling :) We traveled with our girls (they are 19 months) and they did not do so well so I'm jealous! ha!

The house is very quiet now, and Jason actually looks like he misses Bailey. So glad that you all could come up and see Mom. Glad Bailey (and Chris) did so well on the plane home. Thanks again, see you soon, Dad

Glad to hear it all went smoothly. :-)
I had no idea you were going to Vashon Island!! We have friends who have a cabin there right on the water - facing Mt Rainier. We've only been in the winter, but it is absolutely beautiful (cold, but beautiful)! Looks like you had Seattle's sunny summer skies. :-)
